“Work from home” is the new norm for a lot of people. And whether or not it’s an easy lifestyle transition, it’s a fortunate capability for a lot of folks.
But for the companies suddenly under pressure to enable remote work, there are a lot of challenges to address. For one thing, how to collaborate?
With remote meetings becoming at least a daily occurrence for a lot of people, a lot of the clients I work with are evaluating their options.
One tip Business Insider offers to improve collaboration via virtual meetings is to require that every participant turn on their video so people can see each other “face to face.” Being able to see people’s faces improves communication, helps keep people focused, and is generally more engaging.
Of course, some people working from home won’t have a strong enough internet connection to stream video, so there will always be exceptions.
Flexible work policies are not a new idea. Long before #coronavirus became a thing we had to worry about, the business world was trending toward more virtual meetings. Any work you do in this domain will serve you long after COVID has ceased to be a daily threat.
